Santa Rosa is the biggest city in the county, and its houses cover more than a century of building. There are Victorians along McDonald Avenue, Craftsman bungalows near the junior college, ranch homes from the 1950s and 60s out in Bennett Valley and Rincon Valley, and whole streets in Coffey Park and Fountaingrove that were rebuilt after the 2017 Tubbs Fire. What they share is the weather. Summer afternoons here get hot and dry, and west-facing walls take years of hard sun. The paint fades, chalks and starts cracking at the trim long before the shady side of the house shows any wear. Winters bring the opposite problem: steady rain that finds every gap the summer opened up, soaking into window sills and the bottom edges of the siding.

Our crews paint all over the city, inside and out. For exterior house painting, that means washing, scraping, caulking and priming before color goes on, so the new coat holds up to the heat and the rain that follows. For interior painting, it means walls, ceilings and trim done cleanly while you keep living at home, with furniture covered and rooms put back together each evening. Ring us or fill in the form whenever you're ready, and we'll come take a look.

Older Homes Near Downtown

The older neighborhoods close to downtown take the most care. Victorians and Craftsman houses have layers of paint going back decades, and the oldest of those layers are often oil-based. New latex paint won't stick to a glossy oil surface without a proper sanding and a bonding primer, so skipping that step is the classic reason a fresh paint job on an old house starts peeling within a year or two. These homes also carry a lot of trim: brackets, spindles, window casings and porch rails, all of it brushed by hand. Old-growth redwood siding is common, and it's worth keeping, since it lasts for generations once it's protected. Any soft spots get dug out and filled or pointed out for repair. Porches and front steps on these houses take a beating from foot traffic and rain, so floor paint and railings often need their own plan. If you're up north instead, our Windsor page covers what we see on the newer subdivisions there.

Newer and Rebuilt Homes

Across Coffey Park, Fountaingrove and other areas rebuilt since 2017, the houses are newer, and so is the paint. Most of it is still in decent shape, but builder-grade finishes don't always last. Flat interior paint scuffs easily and doesn't wipe clean, and exterior colors on the sunny side can fade well before the rest of the house. A lot of these homes have fiber cement siding and stucco, which take paint well once the joints and cracks are sealed. Inside, many owners are ready to swap out the plain white walls and standard cabinets they moved in with, and a new color in the kitchen makes a bigger difference than people expect. Our cabinet painting work turns stock cabinets into something that looks chosen rather than installed. Ranch homes in Rincon Valley and Bennett Valley sit in between: decades of repaints, wood trim that has dried out in the sun, and eaves that need scraping before anything else. Whatever the age of your house, we look at it in person first and price it in writing.
