Windsor only became a town in 1992, and most of its houses went up in the years around that, in subdivisions spread out from the Town Green. That makes the paint on a lot of Windsor homes twenty to thirty years old, or a first repaint that's already wearing. Summers here are hot, hotter than Santa Rosa on many afternoons, and the long dry season is hard on south and west walls. Builders often used one or two neutral colors across a whole neighborhood, and those colors have faded unevenly from house to house depending on which way each one faces. The 2019 Kincade Fire also left plenty of homes here with ash residue and smoke that worked its way into eaves, vents and interior walls.

Bright living room with freshly painted white walls and trim, a white fireplace and large windows

We paint homes all over Windsor, from the older ranch properties on the edges of town to the newer streets near the Town Green. Most exterior jobs here are exterior painting on stucco and fiber cement with wood or composite trim, and they start with a careful wash and crack repair. We handle inside work and cabinets too, and many owners pair the outside with a few rooms inside so it's all done in one visit. Tell us a little about the house on a quick call or in the form, and we'll pick a day that suits you.

Subdivision Homes and HOA Rules

Many Windsor neighborhoods have a homeowners association, and many associations keep a list of approved exterior colors or require you to submit your scheme before painting. Check with yours early, since approval can take a few weeks. Once colors are set, the work itself is mostly about surfaces that were built quickly. Stucco on these houses tends to crack at the corners of windows and doors as it settles. Fiber cement siding holds paint well, but the caulked joints between boards dry out and open up, letting water reach the edges. Builder-grade trim, especially around garage doors, often needs more scraping and priming than people expect. We look at all of it during the walkthrough and put each item on the written estimate, so you know where the time goes. Farther up Highway 101, our Healdsburg page covers the older homes and estates in that town.

Inside Newer Homes

Inside, the most common complaint we hear in Windsor is about the original paint. A lot of new homes are finished in flat, inexpensive paint that marks the first time a chair or a backpack touches it, and scrubbing the mark leaves a shiny patch. Repainting in a washable eggshell or satin solves that for good. Open floor plans are the other thing to plan for. When the living room, kitchen and hallway all flow together, there's no natural place to stop one color and start another, so we'll talk through where the lines go before anyone opens a can. High ceilings in great rooms take extra equipment and time, which shows up in the estimate. Kitchens are often the next thing owners tackle, and our kitchen cabinet painting can update builder cabinets without replacing them. Every room gets covered, cleaned up daily and checked with you at the end.
